VisitMalta joins forces with EOLO-Kometa Cycling Team

VisitMalta is proud to announce that it has formalised an agreement with EOLO Kometa Cycling Team – an agreement which will see the VisitMalta brand promoted by the team in international competitions including the famous Giro d’Italia and other international cycling events.

Through this agreement, VisitMalta and the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection will be investing to ensure that the tourism sector, in its versatility, continues to grow in strength, and quality, by also diversifying our product and the various niches that make it up, including, in this case, Sports Tourism.

Sports Tourism in the Maltese Islands is gaining exponential popularity, and this could also be seen in the uptake of the specific incentive scheme which was launched for International Sport Events, as part of the Tourism Recovery Plan following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

"This partnership between EOLO-Kometa and VisitMalta is a tangible proof of our efforts to exploit emerging and developing tourism segments including sports related tourism. By way of this alliance, the Maltese Islands will immensely benefit from incremental promotion as well as cements its position further as the ideal destination for cycling enthusiasts. EOLO-Kometa Cycling Team will over the next years be visiting our country to experience first-hand the splendour of our Islands as professional cyclists and visitors alike. From a sports perspective it is a pleasure to confirm that by way of this agreement exciting opportunities will be created for young Maltese cyclists to possibly join the EOLO-Kometa Youth Team according to their age and ability. This historical milestone, which is a first for any European country will most certainly generate excellent results in terms of tourism inflows as well as ascertain Malta’s status as the destination of choice," outlined Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo.

We are proud to have finalised this agreement which will be giving VisitMalta new opportunities through which we can promote the Maltese Islands at high profile international sporting events. We are also proud to be able to have our branding present on all race kits and team vehicles, and gaining hours of TV and other digital media exposure, apart from having the team itself serving as Malta’s ambassador all around the world. This agreement however, goes beyond the realms of a partnership agreement, as it falls within the parameters of the Malta Tourism Strategy for the next years, in which the Malta Tourism Authority together with the Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection have outlined the need of further investment in niche tourism, and in particular in Sports Tourism,” Carlo Micallef, Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority added.
