Executive Summary

VisitMalta (Malta Tourism Authority) is issuing a Call for a Choreographer to oversee and create all the choreography needed by Malta at Dubai EXPO 2020 on the 19th January 2022. This call is open to Maltese Nationals who must have a strong body of work and dance background in curating and directing international interdisciplinary dance projects.

This project is celebrating the diversity and vitality of dance as a showcase that will focus on the power of dance to inform, promote dialogue and be a vehicle that reflects change. The Choreographer must have the knowledge and ability to direct and create new work in collaboration with various dance genres, and must own previous experience of working closely in collaboration with composers.

This project at Dubai Expo 2020 is dedicated to a totally new creation, growing from intuitive, learned and inherited experiences that reflect Malta's diverse culture and traditions. Rehearsals will take place from the 22nd November 2021, and the applicants must also have rehearsal space available in Malta.

The MTA is supporting this initiative as part of our commitment to promote the Maltese Islands in non-conventional ways, this time, through an artistic representation about the Maltese Islands on what can be considered as the world's current biggest platform, where over 190 countries are present. All the world is coming together, for the first time since the pandemic began, to connect, to exchange and to learn on this extraordinary global stage, and through this call, we are excited to extend this opportunity to local musicians.

 

Application Process

Apply today by sending a video or video links of your most recent works in full. Files can be sent via WeTransfer to events@visitmalta.com. Applications should also include a synopsis of work and some written indication of the creative process, together with a Biography and high-resolution photographs including a headshot of the choreographer and performance photos. Applications have to be sent by not later than Monday 15th November 2021 at 17:00hrs.

 

Selection Process

An independent adjudication panel will review all the applications received and all applicants will be informed accordingly. Selection criteria are based upon artistic merit, innovation, technical feasability, thematic content and programming considerations. The MTA will cover costs relating to flights, accommodation and ground transfers.
