MTA Supports the First Belgian post-COVID Travel Congress in Malta

Selectair, an association of more than 100 travel agencies, and the most important chain of travel agencies in Belgium, chose Malta as the venue of its first post-COVID Congress last weekend. Selectair is not attached to any tour operator, hotel chain or airline, and their objective is to offer independent expert advice and help clients with the choice of a destination for their next holiday.

This congress was supported by The Malta Tourism Authority, as well as Glenaki, MTA’s representation agency in Belgium.

82 delegates, including a small media delegation from leading Belgian tourism industry publications Travel Express, Pagtour, Travel 360 and Travel Magazine, flew with Air Malta to Malta to network, and see for themselves why there is more to explore when a person chooses Malta as for a holiday, especially this year, after having been through countless lockdown variations.

Throughout the stay in the Maltese Islands, the delegates and the journalists, most of whom were visiting Malta for the first time, had the chance to discover what our Islands have to offer, and to also experience Malta’s upgraded touristic product offer.

The MTA is proud to have supported such an important congress, which came at quite a crucial time, when we are seeing tourism picking up slowly but steadily, after the pandemic. From the initial feedback that we have, the visiting travel agents and delegates enjoyed their time in Malta and are looking forward to further strengthening their working relationship with the MTA and local stakeholders to attract more tourism from Belgium to the Maltese Islands. Belgium is a very important market for Malta, having attracted over 70,000 tourists in 2019, and we look forward to seeing this congress bear its fruit in the coming weeks and months. A word of thanks definitely goes to the Marketing team here in Malta, Air Malta and our partners in Belgium for working tirelessly on this project to ensure its success,” Carlo Micallef, Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer of the MTA said.
