The cyclists participating in the ALIVE 2026 Cycling Challenge for Cancer Research arrived from Malta and were warmly welcomed at Vienna Airport by representatives from the Embassy of Malta in Vienna and VisitMalta.

Since its establishment in 2013, the ALIVE Charity Foundation has grown into one of Malta’s most dedicated, transparent and impactful voluntary organisations, committed entirely to supporting local cancer research. To date, the foundation has donated an extraordinary €1.1 million to the University of Malta Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT).

Run entirely by volunteers and operating without administrative overheads, the foundation ensures that 100% of public donations, excluding the direct costs associated with fundraising activities, are channelled directly into funding vital cancer research conducted within the laboratories of the University of Malta.

The ALIVE 2026 Cycling Challenge for Cancer Research brought together 35 cyclists who embarked on a demanding route beginning in Slovakia and continuing through Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia before concluding in Vienna, Austria.

Over the course of six days, participants covered an impressive 1,100 kilometres by mountain bike. Behind every kilometre lies a deeply personal story and a powerful collective determination to transform pain, loss and helplessness into hope through research and action.

The challenge officially concluded in Vienna on 3 July 2026. To mark the achievement, a reception was held at the Hilton Waterfront Vienna, hosted by the Embassy of Malta in Vienna and generously supported by Xjenza Malta, VisitMalta and Twistees. The cyclists were warmly welcomed and celebrated for their remarkable endurance, commitment and contribution to cancer research awareness.
