UK Office wins Prestigious TTG Award

UK Office wins Prestigious TTG Award

In a glittering event held on Monday evening at London’s renowned Lyceum Theatre, the MTA London Office won the TTG Award for ‘The Tourist Board of the Year’ for 2019.  The MTA also won this accolade in 2016 and 2017. No other destination has ever won the award twice in a row or three times in four years.

This award is regarded as the most prestigious in the UK travel industry and is also billed as the most difficult to win. The TTG Awards are an annual event held each year in London by Travel Trade Gazette, the UK’s leading trade weekly and oldest travel industry publication in the world.

Reaching the final is subject to a vote by thousands of UK travel agents, with the winner then selected by a judging panel of senior industry leaders. Malta won this prestigious award against fellow finalists, Australia, South Africa, Abu Dhabi, St Kitts, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda.

Mr. Peter Vella, MTA Director for the UK and Ireland commented, “Malta has established itself as the UK’s leading tourist board for three years out of the last four. We have a very talented team here in London which is extremely well supported by the MTA in Malta and the Ministry for Tourism”.

Dr. Gavin Gulia, MTA Chairman, remarked on this success, “ It is remarkable that a small country like Malta has become the undisputed gold standard tourist board in our biggest market. This is a wonderful testament to all the dedication and hard work of the team in London, The Ministry for Tourism and the MTA team here in Malta”. Dr. Gulia continued by thanking all those involved in achieving this prestigious award.

Dr. Gulia concluded by saying that the MTA strives to maintain the importance of the United Kingdom as a major source market for the Maltese Islands. This can be seen from the performance over the last four years with passenger arrivals up by 31% between 2014 and 2018.
