Tourism and Sustainable Development
The Tourism and Sustainable Development Unit (TSDU) within the OPM structure is responsible for EU affairs relating to tourism, environment, sustainable development and policy development in these areas. The TSDU continues to offer guidance to the Malta Tourism Authority in EU related matters which cover both legislative proposals and funding opportunities. It also runs an EU co-financed scheme for sustainable tourism projects by enterprises and acts as the focal point for the LIFE+ EU environment programme.
Tourism
- Formulating Malta’s position on EU legislative and non-legislative proposals relating to tourism
- Tourism policy
- Implementing the Grant Scheme for Tourism Projects by Enterprises which is co-financed by the EU through the Structural Funds
- Co-ordinating EU funding programmes and projects
Environment
- Co-ordinating Malta’s position on EU legislative and non-legislative proposals relating to the environment ensuring that this is in line with Government policy, meeting reporting obligations and co-ordinating Multilateral Affairs relating to the environment
- Act as the focal point for the LIFE+ EU funding programme
Sustainable Development
- Reviewing and monitoring the Sustainable Development Strategy
