The Malta Tourism Authority is responsible for a number of tourist information centres situated at the   Malta International Airport (MIA), Valletta, Mdina, Mellieha and Victoria/Rabat (Gozo).tioim1

The MIA centre in the Arrivals Lounge, was re-vamped last year and is situated in a more visible location.  The centre is manned by three officers: Ms Anna Abela, Ms Caroline Balzan Engerer and Ms Carmen Mckay. It is estimated that the centre assists around 2,500 customers monthly on average.  The type of assistance given is mainly related to accommodation, transport facilities to and from the airport as well as general information particularly events.

The Valletta centre is the largest and busiest assisting 12,000 customers on average per month. 

The centre consists of a ground level and first floor. The Customer Care Unit (CCU) is housed on the top floor and is made up of Ms Colette Grech and Ms Rita Sammut.  Ms Delia Lomax assists Manager TIOs and the CCU.tioim3

The Mdina TIO was inaugurated on the 25th of September 2009 and caters for an estimated 120

customers a day.  It is currently manned by four service providers namely: Charles Borg, Nicole Cuschieri and Melvin Vella.  This office caters for Rabat and other towns/villages in the vicinity.

The Mellieha TIO was inaugurated on the 13th August 2009 and caters for an estimated 80 customers a day.  It is manned by Ms Ann Gauci, a service provider.  The centre is situated next to the Mellieha Sanctuary – a very popular place visited by locals and tourists.

The Valletta Waterfront TIO has been inaugurated on the 16th June 2010. The new TIO at Valletta Waterfront was opened in the immediate wake of a 53% (153,646) increase in cruise line passenger traffic being announced for the first five months of this year, when compared to the same period in 2009.

over seven years with an average of 2,000 customers per month.  It is manned by Ms Rosalind Gatt and two Government officers on loan from the Ministry of Gozo namely Ms Josette Portelli and Mr Frank Debono.

The Authority is also in the process of taking over a new information booth at the Valletta Waterfront.  In view of the importance of the cruise passenger business, the information booth will assist customers on setting foot on the island as well as alleviate the pressure of work from the Valletta TIO.
