JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO               Chief Marketing Officer

 

Main Objectives of the Job

As MTA’s Director Overseas based in MTA Frankfurt Office, the main objective of this position is to increase the awareness of the Maltese Islands as an all year round destination and place Malta strongly in the tourists’ minds as a preferred destination. The Director will also focus on Malta’s identified market segments, seek to develop new ones and prioritises marketing activities to increase visits by residents of Germany, Austria and Switzerland throughout the year, but particularly in the leaner months to improve seasonality spread of tourism to The Maltese Islands.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the daily running of MTA Germany office in collaboration with other members of the Germany office team;
  • To implement the MTA’s Marketing and Promotional Plans and Policies efficiently and effectively in Germany, Austria and Switzerland;
  • To implement all marketing actions, media and PR plans via joint efforts with PR agencies in the countries under the responsibility of Director Germany as well as plan and monitor advertising campaigns on a regular basis;
  • To discuss, implement and monitor Tour Operator Support Actions with a commercial view to maximise returns on investment;
  • To source out new opportunities to support the promotion and marketing of Malta & Gozo and the growth in tourist arrivals from the region;
  • To monitor, liaise and communicate with MTA’s appointed overseas personnel in the region to ensure that the confirmed plans and actions are realized;
  • To communicate, liaise and involve the Head Office based Marketing Unit supporting activity in the region to action PR, segment marketing, advertising and branding initiatives in the region
  • To plan, action and monitor all budgets allocated for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and to ensure that all actions are as per plan and budget allocation approved by Head Office

 

Additional Duties

  • Visiting on a regular basis travel fairs, events and meetings with trade partners
  • Creating PR and answering inquiries by journalists in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
  • Keeping accurate records of travel, out of pocket, expenses as well as office-related expenses and requesting funds from Head Office
  • Ensuring a smooth and efficient operation in the three offices under the responsibility of this position, with clear identifiable responsibilities for each staff member

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have a Post-graduate degree (Masters’) at MQF Level 7 in Marketing, Communications, Tourism Studies or Business Management, or an appropriate, recognized, comparable qualification, and four (4) years relevant work experience of which two (2) years must be in a managerial position;

OR

  • Must have a first  degree at MQF Level 6 in Marketing, Communications, Tourism Studies or Business Management, or an appropriate, recognized, comparable qualification, and six (6) years relevant work experience of which two (2)  years must be in a managerial position;

OR

  • A minimum of seven (7) years experience in Marketing, Communications, Tourism Studies or Business Management of which two (2) years were in a managerial position;

AND

  • Knowledge of the German language is an asset.

  • Must have proven leadership, management and strategic management skills;
  • Must be task-oriented, capable of reaching set targets within established and agreed performance levels;
  • Must be task-oriented with ability to handle several on-going projects with professionalism and accuracy;
  • Must be well-versed in current marketing trends and issues;
  • Must be a person of integrity, outgoing and assertive with excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Must have proven analytical skills;
  • Must possess sound negotiating skills;
  • Must have excellent communication skills in Maltese, English and preferably German, both written and oral;
  • Must be computer literate;
  • Must possess very good presentation skills;
  • Must be organised and possess good time management skills. 
  • Must be prepared to travel since job entails extensive travelling.
