World renowned former football referee and personality Pierluigi Collina was hosted on a walking tour of Valletta organised by the Malta Tourism Authority. The former International FIFA referee and current member of the UEFA referees committee, was the keynote speaker at a prestigious event held at one of the leading hotels later in the day. 

Mr. Collina was greeted at the Upper Barrakka Gardens by MTA Chairman, Dr. Gavin Gulia who welcomed the celebrity referee to Malta’s historic capital. 

During this tour, Mr. Collina was taken to various places of interest around Valletta, including the Auberge de Castille, Renzo Piano’s Parliament building and new city entrance. This was followed by a stroll down Republic Street to St. John’s Co-Cathedral, where Mr. Collina had the opportunity to view the works of Italian masters Caravaggio and Mattia Preti. The Valletta tour concluded with a visit to the Grandmasters’ Palace. 

The MTA Chairman, Dr. Gavin Gulia, commented that “It is an honour to host such an important and iconic figure from the football world, and MTA is pleased to have contributed to give Mr. Collina a taste of our magnificent capital city. We augur that this brief visit to the Maltese Islands will be followed by a longer stay sometime in the future!” Dr Gulia concluded by thanking all those that were involved in bringing Mr. Collina to Malta as well as the MTA team who handled his itinerary.
