Through the efforts of the Malta Tourism Authority’s Gozo Office and the Young Reporters for the Environment programme (FEE Malta) managed locally by Nature Trust Malta, a number of Gozitan students have been given the opportunity to undertake a week-long job shadowing experience focused on journalism.

During this week, seven Year 10 students from the Gozo College Secondary School had the opportunity to meet a group of Irish Journalists visiting Gozo and visit the offices of The Times of Malta in Valletta where they received first hand tips from the professionals on the job. They also visited two boutique hotels in Gozo where they met the General Manager who explained to them how outgoing, inquisitive and flexible one needs to be on such a job.

During a visit to the Malta Tourism Authority offices in Victoria, students were provided with information about the role of the MTA. The students also received basic training in photography, article writing and videography and had a go at producing their own stories/features and photos with captions for the local media. One student also worked on a feature about Gozo.

MTA CEO Mr. Paul Bugeja thanked all involved in this initiative at MTA Gozo division, and especally to thier Guidance Teacher Ms Josienne Bugeja who supported Ms Marvic Refalo, EkoSkola/YRE teacher in monitoring and guiding the students throughout this job-shadowing experience.
