The Malta Tourism Authority is pleased to announce that its Austrian Office was awarded a gold medal at the recent “T.A.I. Werbe Grand Prix”, a renowned tourism advertising competition in Austria. The MTA placed first in audience rating in the tourism website category for www.visitvalletta.de.

The “Werbe Grand Prix” competition is an event held by renowned national Austrian travel trade magazine T.A.I (Tourismus Austria International). This year there were 273 entries in six categories – hotel brochures, destination brochures, tourism brochures and posters, social media, websites, and television/radio commercials.

The voting for this competition took place online as well as during the major Austrian tourism fair “Reise Salon” and Malta placed first out of the 273 entrants.

The winning website, www.visitvalletta.de, provides extensive information about Valletta’s varied touristic and cultural offers and serves as a highly successful marketing tool within the promotion of Valletta as a city break destination, as well as the European Capital of Culture 2018. The appealing website was developed by the MTA’s German office a few years ago and is accompanied by a printed brochure, which was recently revised for its 2nd edition.

MTA CEO, Mr Paul Bugeja said “This award is particularly significant since it was voted for by the general public out of such a huge number of entrants. It is a tangible recognition of the hard work carried out in this market and will lead to greater exposure for the Maltese Islands, and in this case, Valletta”. Mr Bugeja added that in 2015, the Maltese Islands experienced a 9.8% increase in arrivals from Austria, with over 30,000 visiting the destination throughout the full year. Mr Bugeja augured that the arrivals from Austria will continue to increase in the months and years to come.
