16-03-2016 MALTA WINS BRONZE AT M&IT AWARDS

MIT-2016
MALTA CLAIMS BRONZE AWARD FOR BEST OVERSEAS CONVENTION BUREAU AT
MEETINGS & INCENTIVE TRAVEL MAGAZINE AWARDS

The Malta Tourism Authority is honoured to be the recipient of a bronze award for ‘Best Overseas Convention Bureau’ in the UK at the annual M&IT Magazine Awards, which took place in London recently. The Meetings & Incentive Travel awards are the most established awards ceremony and the biggest night of the year for this niche, bringing together all sectors of the industry to recognise excellence of service.

This year, the prestigious event was attended by more than 1,200 industry professionals and hosted by BBC presenter Kate Silverton at Battersea Evolution. Malta faced some stiff competition on the night with The Hague taking the gold award and Rotterdam coming in second place.

MTA CEO, Mr Paul Bugeja said that “The MTA is honoured to receive this respected accolade as it recognises the satisfaction of our clients and partners through Malta’s offering in terms of product and services. Special recognition goes to the local service providers who in most instances provide an excellent service. We strive to continue enhancing the enriching experience received by delegates to ensure they maximize their time on the islands. Our aim is to put Malta at the forefront of people’s mind when searching for a world class conference destination, and we believe that we have achieved a lot in a relatively short time, particularly with the number of world-class events being hosted locally”.

Mr Bugeja concluded by saying that “The Meetings & Incentives sector continues to be a very important component of our overall visitor inflow, especially in view of the fact that these tend to prefer the less busy months of the year, which helps us improve the seasonality spread. Their per capita spending is around 20% higher than average which helps us continue to increase the overall revenue generated which in turn supports substantially the sustainability of the whole industry”.
