The Malta Tourism Authority’s German Office has recently been awarded with the prestigious tourism trophy, the “Globus Award”. This awards ceremony, which is known as “Globus Night”, was organised by renowned German Travel Trade magazine “Touristik Aktuell” in Frankfurt.

This esteemed award is conferred to tourist boards that provided outstanding service to travel agencies in Germany. This is a positive result for the Maltese Islands as we managed to achieve an outstanding position amongst the big tourism players such as Spain and Australia which ranked first and second respectively. A total of 125 tourist boards from around the world participated in this competition.

The results of these awards are determined by votes based on the day to day experiences of a large number of travel agents. Their voting patterns reflect their actual experiences with the Tourist Boards and how their needs were addressed. The voting process was overseen by an esteemed panel of Tourism professionals.

German travel agents were once again extremely satisfied with the service provided by the MTA office, particularly the excellent sales support and for the numerous initiatives undertaken to convey detailed information about the Maltese Islands’ varied holiday offer. Other initiatives included the popular online trading tool “Malta Akademie”, creative travel agent familiarisation trips and the organisation of road shows and workshops.

Commenting on the Globus Award achievement, MTA CEO, Mr Paul Bugeja said “we are proud to have received this award in such a challenging scenario, as this means that the efforts by our German office is being recognised by experts in the tourism industry. The German market is currently our third largest incoming market, and we will endeavour to up the game, together with our stakeholders, with increased marketing efforts and connectivity from additional points of departure in Germany. This award is symbolic of all the great work carried out throughout the year by our enthusiastic and committed German team supported by MTA Malta”.
