Regular Events & Attractions
Throughout the year, the Malta Tourism Authority stages the re-enactment of historical military parades at Fort St. Elmo, titled In Guardia and dating back to the times of the Knights of St. John. During these parades, around 90 officers and men-at-arms accoutred in period costume will perform a series of military drills in the fort's "Place-of-Arms". The ceremonial includes marching, changing of the guard, manning of posts, orders of the day, musketry and gunnery drill, parade fall-in, presentation of arms and colours. "Feux de Joie" together with noon-day or curfew cannon shots, add to this unique spectacle.
Alarme! is a show portraying a military encounter between Napoleonic and Maltese troops during the blockade of 1798 - 1800. The show is staged by the Historical Re-enactment Group of Malta and organised by the Malta Tourism Authority. BirdLife Malta, a non-governmental organisation that works for the protection of wild birds and their habitats, manages two nature reserves at Ghadira and is-Simar. BirdLife Malta organises regularly environmental activities for it members and the general public. The Ghadira Nature Reserve is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet day out and see some birds and wildlife typical of the Maltese islands. The Great Siege of Malta and the Knights of St. John, a multi-media presentation which cost almost 10 million US$, is Europe’s most exciting 3-D walk-through historical attraction. This spectacular is themed around the Knights of St. John in 45 action-packed minutes, using state-of-the-art technology with a choice of fourteen languages. The Malta Experience Show at St Elmo Bastions, Mediterranean Street, Valletta is a multivisual show highlighting 7000 years of Maltese History. With 45 unforgettable minutes narrated in various languages, it is one of Europe’s largest multivision shows and the finest introduction to the Maltese Islands in a fully air-conditioned theatre. The Embassy Complex presents the film ‘Malta George Cross - the Wartime Experience’ daily at 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and 13.00 hrs in Theatre 2 at the Embassy Complex, St. Lucia Street, Valletta. The theatre has state of the art vision and sound technology, is fully accessible by lift and fully air-conditioned. It is also equipped with wheelchair inlets, head rests on all seats and a stadium seating plan.

‘Poetry on Gozo’ is an event where poets read own work to an interested audience in an informal atmosphere. The activity is held on the last Wednesday of every month, in Victoria Gozo - in Dverna Tal Mewta during the winter and at the Cittadella during the summer.
The Island Fortress Exhibition at Wignacourt Tower in St Paul’s Bay is open Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 12.00 hrs.

The Mdina Dungeons, Malta’s only dark walk attraction, are located beneath the Magisterial Vilhena Palace just inside the main entrance gate to Mdina. Here, in a series of secret underground passageways, chambers and cells a number of events,have been recreated to portray historic events from the dark and turbulent side of Maltese history. The attraction contains full-size figures in period costume supported by display text panels in various languages. The Mdina Dungeons are opened all year round, Monday to Sunday, from 10.00 to 16.30 hrs (last admission 16.15 hours). They are found at: St. Publius Square in Mdina. Fort Rinella in Kalkara is a British coastal fort built in the last quarter of the 19th century. It is also home to the largest cannon ever built, weighing 100 tons. Open Monday to Sunday, except on public holidays, from 10.00 to 16.00 hrs. Historical re-enactments are provided from Monday to Saturday at 14.30 hrs and guided tours in English and Maltese are also available. The Limestone Heritage is a unique tourist attraction offering an insight into the ancient trades of quarrying and masonry, situated in an old quarry in Mikiel Azzopardi Street, Siggiewi. The tour includes a multi-lingual video production and a walk through a collection of authentic exhibits, artefacts, machinery and dioramas. Expert craftsmen work the stone producing souvenirs which are then sold at the museum's shop. The Limestone Heritage is open on Mondays to Fridays from 9.00 to 16.00 hrs and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.00 to 12.00 hrs.

The Xarolla windmill in Zurrieq offers a permanent exhibition set up by the Zurrieq local council and the MTA. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays between 09.00 and 12.00 hrs.
