Information about regular events and attractions can be obtained here.

Noon-day gun firing, old Saluting Battery, Valletta
Every day at 12.00a.m. sharp, an historic cannon is fired from the old Saluting Battery, in Valletta by volunteers from the Malta Heritage Trust dressed in late 19th century military uniforms. This event recreates the daily ritual of days gone by when time was marked by the firing of cannon. The noon-day gun also signalled the exact hour of the day to mariners moored in the harbour. This allowed them to accurately calibrate their ship’s timepiece on which they would depend to find the longitude at sea. Guided tours of the historic battery are available on the hour at this site. Location is easily reached on foot from the main bus station following directional signs.

Victorian military re-enactments at Fort Rinella, Kalkara
Daily at 2.30p.m., historical re-enactments take place at Fort Rinella, Kalkara during which the late 19th century British fort is brought back to life. Fort Rinella was built in 1878 for the world’s largest cannon ever built which is still in situ. Visitors to this fort are taken on an animated tour comprising the firing of a period cannon, musketry fire, military signalling, bayonet fighting and period military food. Visitors are also allowed to fire a cannon or a soldier’s musket. Guided tours are provided throughout the day on the hour. Fort Rinella is best reached by bus number 4 to Kalkara or by driving towards the Three Cities/Cottonera following road signs.
