Gozo-Based Tourists
January to December 2006
Between January to December 2006, 53,025 tourists (4.8% of air departures) opted for a Gozo-based holiday, a decrease of 9,088 tourists or 14.6 per cent over the corresponding period a year ago.
This decrease mainly reflected fewer tourists from the UK (-25.1%), France (-30.2%), Austria (-33.4%), Denmark (-84.5%), Norway (-52.8%), Switzerland (-54.9%) and Russia (-100.0%). On the other hand, tourists from Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, USA, Italy and Germany, who have opted for a Gozo-based holiday are estimated to have increased.
Tourist Accommodation in Gozo
January to December 2006
In December 2006, 999 tourists resided in collective accommodation establishments in Gozo, an increase of 302 tourists or 43.3 per cent when compared with the same month a year ago.
Air tourists spent 3,684 nights in Gozo, an increase of 15.4% over December 2005.
In December 2006, tourists spent an average of 3.7 nights in Gozo.
Between January to December 2006, 33,576 tourists slept in hotels and/or other accommodation establishments in Gozo, an increase of 6.9% over the corresponding period a year ago. During the same period, total nights spent amounted to 187,137, an increase of 3.6% over the same period a year ago.
During the year under review, tourists spent an average of 5.6 nights in collective accommodation in Gozo.
